We build vehicle auction marketplaces where dealers bid on wholesale inventory with photo inspection data, condition reports, and logistics coordination built in; fleet management dashboards that track vehicle location, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, and driver behavior; dealer management integrations that connect custom tools to DMS platforms like CDK Global and Reynolds & Reynolds; connected vehicle data platforms that ingest telematics streams (GPS, OBD-II data, CAN bus signals) and surface actionable insights to fleet operators; and customer-facing dealer portals for service scheduling, maintenance history, and recall alerts. Automotive software has long integration cycles with established DMS and OEM systems — we treat compliance with existing data formats as a first-class requirement.

Connected vehicle data typically comes from three sources: OBD-II telematics devices that plug into the vehicle's diagnostic port and transmit location, speed, fuel level, and fault codes; native OEM telematics APIs (available for vehicles from manufacturers who expose their telemetry, including BMW, Ford, and GM through SmartDeviceLink or OEM partner programs); and aftermarket GPS tracking devices for fleets where you control the hardware. We build ingestion pipelines using Kafka that handle high-frequency telemetry streams (some devices transmit every 5 seconds), normalize the data to a common schema regardless of hardware source, and feed it into dashboards and alerting systems. Latency for critical alerts (geofence violations, harsh braking events) is typically under 10 seconds.

Compliance requirements vary by the type of software and the market. For consumer-facing software in the EU, GDPR applies to vehicle location data and driver behavior data, which are treated as personal data. For dealerships handling customer financial data in connection with F&I products, GLBA compliance (US) applies. For connected vehicle data in newer vehicles, emerging regulations around data access rights (EU Data Act, California's right-to-repair legislation) are relevant. For fleet operators in regulated industries (transportation, hazmat), ELD (Electronic Logging Device) mandate compliance may be required. We include a compliance review in every automotive engagement and work with clients to determine which regulations apply before we begin architecture design.

Vehicle auction marketplaces have specific requirements that distinguish them from general auction platforms: condition reports with structured inspection data (exterior, interior, mechanical, tire tread), high-volume photo management (often 40–60 photos per vehicle), title and document handling, reserve price management, proxy bidding, and post-auction logistics coordination including transportation and title transfer. We have built a European vehicle auction marketplace that handled multi-currency transactions across 8 countries, with real-time bidding, integrated inspection report uploads, and a logistics coordination module. The core architecture uses WebSockets for real-time bid updates, S3-compatible storage for photos, and a PostgreSQL database with PostGIS for location-based inventory search.
