Rebuilding the Engine: How Globe Car & Truck Rentals Modernized Its Platform to Fuel the Next Decade of Growth
For operators running a multi-location service business, aging technology isn't just an IT problem, it's a ceiling on growth. Every new location, every new offering, every new partner integration gets slower and riskier to launch. That's the position Globe Car & Truck Rentals was in, and it's why they partnered with Intercode: not for a one-time fix, but to rebuild their platform as the foundation for the next decade of the business.

About Globe Car & Truck Rentals

Globe Car & Truck Rentals is a Quebec-founded, independently owned car and truck rental company competing on a simple promise: current-year vehicles, transparent pricing, and service guarantees the big national chains don't offer — a price-match guarantee, free roadside assistance, and a documented “8 Promises” commitment to customers.

The business has grown from a single Montreal location into a multi-branch operation spanning downtown Montreal, Mont-Royal, Villeray, Laval, the South Shore, Montreal–Trudeau (YUL) Airport, and a location on the Champs-Élysées in Paris — with kiosk rentals, corporate fleet accounts, and insurance-replacement programs layered on top of standard bookings.

Every one of those touchpoints — a walk-in kiosk, an airport counter, a corporate account, a web booking in French or English — depends on the same backend platform. As the business grew, so did the pressure on that platform to keep up.

The Business Challenge

Globe Car's reservation platform had powered years of growth, but it was built on technology that was starting to work against the business rather than for it. New features took too long to ship — anything customer-facing, like a new payment option, a new branch, or a new promotion, had to be threaded carefully through an aging system, slowing down the business's ability to respond to the market.

Risk was concentrated rather than distributed: because the platform hadn't been built with modern safeguards, changes carried more risk of something breaking for customers mid-booking, a serious concern for a business built on service reliability. Without modern monitoring in place, issues tended to surface as customer complaints rather than being caught and fixed before anyone noticed, and multi-branch logic, language support, and kiosk-specific workflows had accumulated in ways that made each new location or channel harder to add than the last. Deploying updates was a manual, higher-risk process — the opposite of what a growing, multi-location business needs when it's trying to move fast.

None of this was visible to a customer booking a car. All of it stood between Globe Car and the next phase of the business — new locations, new products, new revenue streams.

The Vision: One Platform, Ten Years of Growth

Globe Car and Intercode didn't scope this as a rewrite-and-move-on project. They scoped it as phase one of a multi-year plan: rebuild the platform so it becomes an asset the business can keep building on, rather than a constraint it has to keep working around.

That meant every decision was measured against a longer horizon than “does this work today.” The goal was a platform stable and flexible enough to support new booking channels, new markets, and new products for the next ten years — without needing another ground-up rebuild along the way.
The Vision: One Platform, Ten Years of Growth

A foundation built to scale

The platform now runs on modern, cloud-native infrastructure with automated deployment built in from day one, so adding a new location, market, or booking channel no longer means a slow, risky, manual rollout.

A single, reliable booking experience

Reservation, pricing, and account logic across every branch, language, and channel were consolidated and modernized, so customers get the same reliable experience whether they're booking online, through a kiosk, or at an airport counter, and Globe Car's team can extend that experience with confidence rather than caution.

Stronger identity and account security

User registration, login, and account management are being modernized onto enterprise-grade authentication, reducing risk and simplifying how the business manages access across its growing footprint.

Visibility before problems reach customers

Modern monitoring and alerting mean issues can be caught and resolved proactively, rather than being discovered through a customer complaint.

A safety net for every future change

A formal testing strategy, a staging environment, and an automated release process mean the business can keep shipping new features quickly without gambling on stability.

Built for Speed, Without Cutting Corners

Modernizing a live, revenue-generating platform on an ambitious timeline only works with the right approach. Intercode's engineers used Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic AI coding tool, as a hands-on partner throughout the project, handling the systematic, high-volume work that legacy modernization demands so the team could move faster without sacrificing quality. That was paired with automated code review and quality checks, with every finding triaged and resolved before it could reach the live platform. The result is a modernization delivered at a pace that would be difficult to match with a traditional approach, without asking Globe Car to accept more risk to get there.

The Technology Stack

For the technically curious, here's what the modernized platform runs on.
Backend & Data: .NET, MongoDB
Identity: Auth0
Cloud & Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure, GitHub Actions (CI/CD)
Observability: Azure Application Insights, Sentry
API & Integrations: Swagger/OpenAPI, Twilio, Mandrill, MaxMind, Fixer, reCAPTCHA v3
AI-Augmented Engineering: Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, SonarQube

Business Impact

Growth is no longer bottlenecked by the platform. New locations, channels, and products can now be built on a stable, modern foundation instead of being slowed down by legacy constraints. The business kept running throughout. Bookings across all eight locations and the Paris branch continued uninterrupted while the platform was rebuilt underneath them. Lower risk, fewer surprises. Modern monitoring, testing, and release processes mean issues are far more likely to be caught before they ever reach a customer. A foundation, not just a fix. The platform is now positioned as a long-term asset, built to support new products and revenue streams for years, not just to pass today's technical debt forward. Independent, and competitive. As an independently owned company, Globe Car now has a technology foundation that can go head-to-head with much larger national chains on speed, reliability, and customer experience. What's Next: With the foundation in place, Globe Car and Intercode are continuing to invest in the platform's security, resilience, and release automation, building toward the fully modernized, production-hardened system the next decade of products will run on. Longer term, that means new booking channels, expanded kiosk capabilities, and fleet and pricing tools that would have been too risky to build on the legacy platform.
